11:30 Maritime cybersecurity threat modelling - attacker-centric and system-centric threats
Attacker-centric: how cybersecurity threats can be modelled in terms of the goals, motivation, capabilities and opportunity of specific attackers.
System-centric: how cybersecurity threats can be modelled in terms of the weaknesses of the systems you use, from Microsoft Office to engine control systems.
Exploring the attacker-centric threat: Russia may be the attacker people are most concerned about. Their attacks on the maritime sector may have been limited to GNSS jamming so far, generating fake news and Russian fishing vessels interfering with NATO operations.
Exploring the system-centric threat: studies have shown that the majority of maritime attacks have targeted IT systems not OT systems. Although if OT systems were ever successfully attacked the consequences could be much worse. Does any attacker have the means and motivation to do it?
